Pinson Butterbean Days Butterbean Cooking Contest

Do you have an award-winning butterbean recipe? Enter the Pinson Butterbean Days Butterbean Cooking Contest and compete for top honors! Whether it’s a family favorite or your own original creation, we’d love to see what you can cook.

Contest Categories

  • Main Dish
  • Side Dish
  • Dessert
  • Cornbread

Butterbeans must be the primary ingredient in all categories except Cornbread.  Cornbread does not have to contain butterbeans.

Contest Rules

  1. Entries must be completely homemade and prepared from scratch.
  2. Butterbeans must be the primary ingredient in all categories except Cornbread.
  3. Contestants may enter multiple categories; however, only one (1) entry per category is permitted.
  4. Entries must be delivered in a disposable container (such as an aluminum pan). Containers will not be returned.
  5. Judging will take place as entries are received.
  6. All hot dishes must be served at a minimum temperature of 135°F at the time of judging.
  7. Judging will be based solely on taste.
  8. By entering the contest, participants grant the North Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pinson permission to photograph their entries and use those photographs for promotional purposes.
  9. Dishes must be dropped off at Pinson Rock School Complex (4509 Pinson Boulevard) – on the back side of the Pinson Public Library Drop.  You will enter through the double glass doors.
    1. Main Dishes and Cornbread – Tuesday, September 29th between 4 – 6 PM
    2. Side Dishes and Desserts – Wednesday, September 30th between 4 – 6 PM

Recipe Submission Requirements

Each entry must include the following:

  • Category
  • Recipe title
  • Photo of the finished dish
  • Number of servings
  • Preparation time
  • Cook/Bake time
  • Complete list of ingredients
  • Step-by-step directions

Incomplete submissions will not be accepted or judged.  Payment must be made with submission.

All submitted recipes will be published in the official Pinson Butterbean Days Digital Cookbook, which will be available as a free download on the Pinson Butterbean Days website following the festival.

Awards

First, Second, and Third Place awards will be presented in each category.

Winners will be announced during Pinson Butterbean Days on Saturday, October 3, at 8:15 a.m.

You do not have to be present to win. Prizes may be picked up at the Pinson Public Library following the event.
